2. How can I become more involved in the Chapter?
AIA Charleston committees address a wide variety of design, advocacy, and practice issues. Open to all, committee meetings and activities provide ample opportunities for networking, continuing education and community building.
3. I don’t live/work in Charleston, but would like to join the AIA Charleston chapter.
If you do not live or work in Charleston, please contact the Membership department at AIA Charleston. Note that permission to join another chapter is not always granted.
4. What are supplemental dues?
AIA member firms are responsible for paying additional dues for their nonmember staff when a Principal or Owner is an active AIA level member. These dues do not apply to Allied firms, or firms in which the Principal is an Associate AIA member. Supplemental dues will be reflected on the invoice of the primary AIA member of the firm. Firm principals/owners will not be assessed supplemental dues until their second year of membership. Supplemental Dues rates:
- Licensed nonmember Architects: $240/person
- Technical Staff: $160/person Technical staff = individuals such as CAD draftspersons or other project-billable staff doing architectural work.

6. I am currently a member at another Chapter. How do I transfer my membership from my current chapter to AIA Charleston?
If you have moved into our chapter region and you are a member in good standing for this year, you may transfer your membership. For more information, please contact the Membership department at membership.
7. I am an AIA/Assoc. AIA member at another chapter. Can I also be a part of AIA Charleston?
An AIA Architect or Associate member in good standing with another chapter who wants to take advantage of Charleston programs and discounts can become a member of AIA Charleston as a Component Affiliate.
8. I am an Allied/Affiliate member at another chapter. Can I also be a part of AIA Charleston?
Allied/Affiliate members of other chapters (individuals working in a field related to architecture, such as design, engineering, construction, law, marketing, etc.) can become a member of AIA Charleston as an Allied Member.
9. I am currently an Int'l Assoc. AIA or Assoc. AIA member and have just received my architecture license. How do I become an Architect (AIA) member?
