Architects-In-Residence
LBD:SC
will engage children, educators and designers in classroom programs
that cultivate real-world architectural awareness through fostering
students’ vocabulary, observation skills, critical thinking,
creativity, and problem solving. Students will be given the opportunity
and the skills to express their ideas about architecture, about
their communities and towns, and about themselves through design.
Curricula will be tailored to meet state
and national teaching standards as well as individual school and
district needs. Classes will be co-taught by classroom teachers
together with Architects-in-Residence. Teachers and Architects-in-Residence
will teach nine one-hour design sessions to their students.
The long-term benefits will be to AIAcharleston
in promoting the awareness of architecture and the profession to
children and students. Additional long-term benefits will be to
the state of South Carolina as design can be used to promote educational
values.
